Here are some photos taken from two different events where the Veterans Project of Challenges Foundation took veterans of different conflicts out for some basic sailing skills.
This photo is from the first gathering of the Veterans Project Sailing Club. Chris (a veteran of the second Iraq conflict), his friend and Louisa (VA recreational therapist) enjoy a break on the Challenges Foundation sailboat. The sailboat was at the Burton Chace park in Marina Del Rey, California.
Louisa (VA recreational therapist) and Steve (Challenges Foundation board member) chat, enjoy a snack and talk about other recreational activities for the veterans.
Tatianna (on right), a veteran of the second Iraq conflict, and her friend share a laugh below deck. Tatianna also participated in the first scuba class.
Jim, Gary and Frances (all Vietname-era veterans) pose for our photographer.
Louisa (VA recreational therapist) surveys the water and land from the sailboat cockpit.
This next group of photos was taken at the second gathering of the Veterans Project Sailing Club.
Roger, Steve, Jim and Guillermo sail in Santa Monica Bay, California. Roger and Jim are veterans of the Vietnam conflict and Guill was in the second Iraq conflict.
Gary, Roger and Steve sail in Santa Monica Bay, California. In the background is the world famous Venice Beach. Gary and Roger both served during the Vietname conflict.
Gary and Roger admire the view while Keeley the dog (and mascot) keeps a sharp lookout.
Steve and Nicolas steady at the wheel. Nicolas is the founder and president of Challenges Foundation. He's also a veteran of the U.S. Army who served peacetime between the Korean and Vietname conflicts. Steve is one of the board members of the Challenges Foundation.
Guillermo and Jim bask in the sun and wind.
The whole crew back at the dock safe and sound after a great day sailing.
Check back again soon to see more pictures of our next sailing outing.
